Home-Start has grown from one scheme in 1973 to hundreds of local Home-Start schemes.
Home-Start MAJIK is a local voluntary organisation working across the communities of Mid Argyll, Jura, Islay & Kintyre. We have a team of trained parent volunteers who support 55 families annually. Life with under 5’s is demanding and some parents struggle to cope. Families need support for many reasons including post-natal illness, disability, bereavement, the illness of a parent or child, or social isolation. Parents supporting other parents: it's a simple idea that really works. Families can contact Home-Start directly or can be referred from another agency.
At the heart of our organisation is the belief that parents have the key role in creating a secure and happy environment for their children. It's just that sometimes they need a bit of help.
Our support is free, confidential and non-judgemental. In fact, many of the families refer themselves to Home-Start - which speaks for itself. We help to increase the confidence and independence of families by:
• Visiting families in their own homes to offer support, friendship and practical assistance
• Reassuring parents that their childcare problems are not unusual or unique
• Encouraging parents' strengths and emotional well-being for the ultimate benefit of their children
• Trying to get the fun back into family life
Our Campbeltown scheme - Home-Start MAJIK was formed in 1996. All the expertise and knowledge gained over the years makes Home-Start what it is today - the UK's leading family support charity and an organisation valued and trusted by families and professionals alike.
